Artist TL69 Thinline Butterscotch Blonde Electric Guitar

The TL69BND Thinline Electric is here. It combines the elegant looks of the TC59 but with a thinline body and a single f-hole on its Mahogany Body. The guitar also comes loaded with our Bullbucker pickups. It's also lighter than the TC59, which is awesome!

Sporting Artist's in-house designed and manufactured "Bullbucker" humbucking pickups, the range of sound possibilities that can be achieved from the '69 whether it be jazz, blues, rock or country, is quite astounding. The "Bullbuckers" are fantastic pickups in their own right and are starting to make some very positive noise amongst guitar players. These "Bullbuckers" also coil-split using a push-pull pot for extra tonal versatility.

The vintage-style maple neck is very comfortable, and the modern bridge which allows for each string's intonation to be adjusted separately guarantees that you can set your guitar up to its optimal level - such a necessary and useful innovation.

To top it all off this wonderful little axe has locking machine heads that make sure that tuning is never far from perfect.

What a great guitar!

By: on 19 October 2023
I have yearned for a Telecaster Thinline ever since I tried one out some twenty odd years ago, but couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger on the $NZ1,500 price. I also had to sell my G&L ASAP a few years ago. I bought a Squier Tele Bullet a couple years ago, but some itches never go away. So when I this Artist Tele Thinline for a great price on TradeMe, I was in like Flynn. And it sounds and plays as good as it looks, at least up to my modest abilities. I have bought an Artist acoustic for more regular practice. All told, I am very happy with my new guitar. I am exploring the sounds it can make and having loads of fun. My best buy so far this year.

I really like this guitar. Played nicely setup-wise straight out of the box. The neck feels great, not too fat, not too thin. The pickups provide a good range of tones. Humbucker grunt in a lightweight body.. nice! Agree with Mike R's summary of quality and finish. Overall I think this is a great guitar for the price. Thanks!

Much lighter than my LP59, nice and twangy, but good range of tone. Quality seems good, finish is mostly good, except for paint imperfections around the f hole. Still love it!!

Tele Type Lightweight Excellent Guitar To Keep For

By: on 17 January 2023
Bought this for just that purpose. It is perfect for open G to be able to play some Keith Richards riffs! The pickups are awesome with knob to pull to switch to single coil sound....locking tuners, playable right out of the box. It does have that telecaster sound to it, too.

Fantastic guitar. Arrived with near perfect action and intonation. The neck is one of the best features. It’s a pronounced C shape but same width as most other Fender Teles (the extra wood is on the edges and I suspect this might increase sustain) and has a great feel and playability. Binding is immaculate as is finish on the rest of the guitar. The string locks (I won’t use the term ‘locking tuners’ because the LT only anchor strings, but don’t stop peg movement ) are great and save on winding time, one reviewer said the string locks were thin. I disagree and no need to upgrade these - any thicker would be millstones. The Bullbuckers are high output humbuckers. Artist guitars have described these as “flutey”. I guess they do sound a little like a woodwind but with great balance and pronounced mids and bass. You can hear one played live here: https://youtu.be/ZdtKURcBIwY (no not me unfortunately, but you can hear the flute notes in these pickups clearly). For chord crunch on humbucker mode, Artist should gift one to Billy Bragg to try out, the bridge humbucker on clean emulates his crunchy rhythm playing on “Brewing Up”. The split coil (SC) sound is exactly as demonstrated on Peter Northcote’s video - perfect for lead and rhythm chord playing and pretty hot for a single coil. While the SC setting is not as sparkly or complex as a typical lower output tele, it is a very balanced sound across all six strings, and as others point out, it is extremely even and usable sound, especially in a mix. The SC setting has a *slight* Jazzmaster quality probably due to the pickup width. Mine weighs 3.4 kg essentially the same as a US 2013 ash Fender Tele. Not sure what the semi hollow does to the sound, as I don’t own an Artist solid TC59, but the hollow it may have some effect in rounding off the sound. I would be interested to hear other opinions. The switch, volume control and tone are extremely positive and good quality. In fact better than on several other big brand guitars. Volume control reduces output without seeming to markedly affect tone (this is actually rare right?). The colour is a cool mustard / butterscotch. Stop asking Artist to supply additional ‘cool’ colours for your GAD - you probably already own those colours anyway. Get one, stand out from the crowd, and embrace the sheer buttery mustardness of this great guitar.

Well worth the money!!

So as usual the guitar arrived quickly and well packed. Came with an inexpensive cable, allen key and pick. So good to go. I'll rate this over 4 categories Build Quality – good out of the box but needed some attention. These guitars are great for learning how to adjust nutsm frets, intonation etc. If you are a half serious guitarist you need to know a bit about this stuff. What needed doing. The nut was brushed and lubricated, frets filed - didn't need much, but just to smooth them to my liking. Bridge lubricated,, intonated and neck adjusted. This is fairly standard stuff. Locking tuners a little thin.... may change them. 3 ½ stars pre adjustments. 4 ½ stars after set up. Sound – So after the ajustments, the guitar plays beautifully. The H/H with split coil configuration gives alot of sound options. Split coils are very usable. So if you want LPish sounds this is great. The split coils don't give a Strat sound.... more like an Ibanez. 4 stars. Playability – I really tlike the profile of the neck and the frets. Smooth fret board. Weight is manageable (definately lighter that the TC59 solid body). 4.5/5 stars. Value- Really good value. I only play in 30-40 mintue sets now and this is great. I sold my expensive electric guitars and purchased a couple of these ( I am mainly acoustic now). Would I recommend this guitar: 100% yes.
